The First Impeachment of the Former Guy

A quick explanation, the vote totals in the House and Senate, and the Senators that did not vote to convict. Vote them out.

A SUMMARY OF WHAT HAPPENED.

The former guy was impeached by the House of Representatives on 12.18.19.

He was impeached for (1) abuse of power and (2) obstruction of Congress.

  • The abuse of power charge stems from the former guy asking a foreign nation (Ukraine) to investigate his political rival (Joe Biden and his family) in July of 2019.
  • The illegality of requesting help from foreign countries to influence our elections was one of the foundations of the Democrats' argument to proceed.

The former guy blocked about $400 million in military aid to Ukraine 90 minutes into a call with Ukraine's President on 07.25.19.

  • On the call, the former guy asked that Ukraine find something to investigate Joe Biden and his son for.
  • A whistleblower complaint was filed in August 2019 with this call as a focus of the complaint.

At least 67/100 guilty votes are needed for the former guy to have been convicted and removed from Office by the Senate.

  • The former guy was acquitted in the Senate trials (48 - 52; 47 - 53) on 02.05.20.
